Quiet Mobs

One issue that has plagued minecraft for as long as it has been around is too much “mob noise” when large groups of mobs are together for things like farms. We decided to create a plugin that would solve this issue.

The plugin makes crowded areas with lots of animals or monsters much quieter without changing how those mobs actually work. First, the plugin looks for groups of the same kind of mob that are packed close together, like a cow pen or a mob farm, and tones down the repeated sounds coming from that group. It does not stop mobs from spawning, kill them, or break farms. It simply reduces the nonstop noise so the server still feels alive without becoming annoyingly loud. The plugin uses a similar function to our Mob Limiter system – by checking for “clusters” of mobs. The plugin sees mobs like this:

This means we can configure it to only affect “abnormally large” groups of mobs – while leaving most naturally spawning animals untouched. This plugin also includes the function to allow you to silence mobs at your own discretion by using name-tags. Name your mob silent, quiet, or shh – and it will make the named mob entirely silent, but leave all their other mechanics completely unchanged.

We’ve setup some basic “catch all” rules for farms, but if you think we should do more specific rules for specific mobs – please let us know! We are including most of our current config for the plugin rules below. You are free to dissect it and pick it apart. You’re also free to point out any mistakes we’ve made, or concerns you might have about how it effects the game-play.
